The first four days of scheduled shooting resulted in no film being rolled. Instead, Christopher Nolan screened two films for the cast and crew with a break in between. The eight films were (in order): Heat, Cat People, Citizen Kane, King Kong,Batman Begins, Black Sunday, A Clockwork Orange, and Stalag 17.
The Dark Knight (2008)
The BatBoat was built especially for the film by the Glastron boat company. In exchange for their cooperation, the producers agreed to hold the film’s world premiere in Austin, Texas, Glastron’s headquarters.
Batman (1966)
The Joker’s face paint was reportedly designed by Heath Ledger himself, who used white clown makeup and cosmetics from a drugstore. Once his design was approved, the makeup team was responsible for replicating the look each day for filming.
The Dark Knight (2008)
Heath Ledger improvised the Joker fiddling with the detonator after the explosions stopped.
The surgical tools used to “reconstruct” the Joker’s face are the same props as the dental tools used by Steve Martin on Bill Murray in Little Shop of Horrors.
Just as it was when filming Batman Begins, director Christopher Nolan oversaw every shot of The Dark Knight himself as there was no second unit.
The Alien nest set was kept intact after filming. It was later used as the Axis Chemicals set for Batman. When the crew of Batman first entered the set, they found most of the Alien nest still intact.
While filming the chase scene with the Joker and the SWAT vans, one of only four IMAX cameras in the world at that time was destroyed.
